Protecting Your Digital Stuff... Drobo

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Protecting your digital stuff. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It used to be that people had shoeboxes full of photos and stacks of record albums and file cabinets full of important papers. Not all of that has gone away, but for many of us, most of it has gone digital, stored on hard drives. There are various ways to protect all of that. Data Robotics offers some simple solutions with a line of external storage boxes called Drobo. CEO Tom Buiocchi says the most popular model has four drive slots...

"It can hold up to four disk drives in a redundant fashion and really protect your digital music and digital photographs at home in a very expandable, easy to use way. It turns out that more than one drive gives you a safety factor and a redundancy factor so that you're always sure that your data or your photographs or your music is always protected."

There are network and stand alone versions that connect directly to PCs and Macs with prices starting at under four hundred dollars. There's more info at Drobo.com. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
