Microsoft Back in the Smartphone Game

Boot Camp feature for Monday, October 18, 2010

Microsoft back in the smartphone game. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Microsoft has been selling Windows Mobile phones for years....but had focused on business users while Apple and then Google started selling millions of smartphones to consumers. With the new Windows Phone 7 devices, which begin arriving next month from AT&T and T-Mobile, it intends to appeal to a wide range of consumers as well. Windows Phone 7 Director Brandon Watson says the tile interface is one big plus...

"So we've tried to focus on what consumers are trying to do with their mobile phones and make it really, really easy to do."

About the apps that will be available, Watson says...

"Twitter's there, IMDB is there, Netflix is there, Facebook is there, lots of games. We have a lot of really high quality apps, but then there's a lot apps from guys you've never really heard of which are really, really cool."

How well the Windows 7 phones will catch on is a question mark? The choices for consumers are getting tougher. Stay tuned. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
