Two screen are better than one: Sprint's Kyocera Echo

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Two screens are better than one.     I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.      It’s the latest Android smartphone coming to Sprint’s network this spring.   The Echo has two 3.5 inch touchscreens …and the unique hinge between them allows the screens to be used as a single 4.7 inch display in a tablet mode.  The screens can run different apps at the same time or run apps like YouTube or email on both displays.    Sprint product development VP David Owens…

So I’m in an email, I actually have it more like a PC.  So on one screen it looks like my  PC and it shows me a view of the email and then I’ve got all the other emails on the other side.   So what we tried to do with this is really focus on PC innovation, gaming innovation, different industries, and that’s where we came up with this idea of, hey, we can really leverage two screens in a very unique way.”

The Echo, which runs on Sprint’s 3G, not 4G data network, will sell for about 200 dollars with a contract.    You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
