Happy World IPv6 Day. What's up with that?

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Happy World IPv6 Day.     I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   What in the world is IPv6?   Well, it turns out, the world is running out of Internet addresses.   Every device that connects to the network needs one.   And IPv6 is designed to expand the number of available address to 340 trillion trillion trillion.   At Internet equipment maker D-Link, that has meant creating routers and such that are IPv6 ready.   Associate VP of consumer marketing Dan Kelley says consumers will see some added benefits from IPv6…

“ And these type of enhancements include network security.  It also has what is called integrated QOS, which is quality of service.  It’s able to better prioritize and optimize things like voice, video and other data traffic.”

There is an IPv6 ready logo on the latest products that are ready for the new standard.    You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
