Exploring your own genetic information.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Whether you have an interest in your family history or perhaps have medical concerns, your genetics can provide lots of information.   And a company called 23andMe is making it affordable for  consumers to delve into it with a simple saliva sample.   Communications Director Catherine Afarian …

“For people who are interested in exploring their ancestry or their genealogy there’s a rich amount of information.  On the health and trait side, we have 24 carrier status reports which are conditions you may not have yourself, but could pass a gene or that trait down to your children.    We also have everything from understanding how you may metabolize caffeine to do you have genes that make it more likely that you may have male pattern baldness.”

The cost is about 200 dollars including a one year subscription to updates..   There’s more info at 23andMe.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
