More to watch in 3D on TV, but enough?

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, February 2, 2012

Is 3D TV catching on?  Panasonic says yes.    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   3D capability is being built into many TVs…but you’ll have to pardon consumers if there hasn’t been all that much excitement about it.   There just hasn’t been all that much compelling 3D content to watch.   But some TV makers are doing their best to change that.   Panasonic, for instance, has announced a partnership to bring lots of 3D coverage of the upcoming Olympic Games to consumers.  Chief Technology Officer Eisuke Tsuyuzaki…

“The short hand is five million TVs were sold until 2011.  We expect the industry will sell another 7.  So that’s about ten times faster than high definition.”  They’re not all necessarily buying it for the 3D though, right?  “No, you could argue that, but I mean if it’s there than the content folks will actually start manufacturing more in 3D.”

So make sure you keep those 3D glasses handy.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
