Samsung pushes the evolution of TV remotes

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, March 22, 2012

Samsung pushes along the evolution of TV remotes.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   The latest high end TVs from Samsung this year will include a built in camera and microphone.   They can be used for video conferencing…but they are also being used as a new way to control everything in your home entertainment system.   Samsung Electronics America President Tim Baxter calls it smart interaction….

“So the ability to revitalize what has been the remote control or the input device and now provide consumers the option of using their voice to control the television, using gesture, with facial recognition.”

A simple “Hi, TV” puts the system in command listening mode.   And an included IR blaster will let you other components like cable or satellite boxes too.    The success of Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, which also uses voice and gesture control, shows consumers seem to like it.     You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
