PointGrab bringing gesture control to more devices

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, May 1, 2012

When it comes to gesture control, Microsoft’s Kinect is just the start.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Using your hands and body to control video games and entertainment without a controller has made the Kinect on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 popular.   And gesture control technology is just getting started.   Israeli based company PointGrab is bringing it to computers, tablets, mobile phones and more.     Senior VP Yoav Hoshen says the company’s software uses the existing cameras built into the devices….

“It allows you just to move your hands to open applications, control the volume of the movie and do everything you’ve done when you watch movies, watch photos, listen to music, everything that you would otherwise require a remote control.”

Acer, Fujitsu and Haier are among the companies using PointGrab software so far…and there’s more to come.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
