Familiar name, Vizio, enters personal computer arena

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, July 5, 2012

A familiar name enters the rough and tumble personal computer business.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    It’s only been around for a decade…but Vizio has had a big impact on the flat screen TV business.   Now it’s planning to make the same kind of splash with a new line of notebook and all in one PCs.    Founder and CEO William Wang…

“What we did in the TV market, we’re going to do in the PC industry.  We believe that consumers deserve something better, something with better quality, better design, better looking, more unique.  But at the same time, I don’t think the consumer should pay two thousand dollars or three thousand dollars for a PC.”

Vizio’s designs do look unique…especially in the all in on category where the computer is housed in a thin base instead of behind the screen.  And the company is promising an end to annoying bloatware too.  There’s more info at Vizio.com.     You can find us, with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
