Different kind of Android tablet from Panasonic

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, August 1, 2012

A different kind of Android tablet, from Panasonic.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Panasonic has taken the wraps off the UN-W700, calling it a multimedia system featuring Skype.  It has a seven inch screen and sits on a desk or counter like a digital picture frame.  Home entertainment products group manager Alex Fried says while it is a full Android tablet, it is designed for simplicity…

“The home page features Skype as well as Facebook, Twitter.  It does has photo frame functionality as well so when you’re not using it for Skype or looking at your Facebook page, you can have pictures displayed through the SD card slot in the back.  Also this device has a dedicated URL so pictures can be remotely uploaded by someone else.  So if I give this to my grandma or something like that, I can send pictures of my kids to be uploaded on this device.” Without paying a service fee? “No fee.”

The UN-W700  does have access to the Google Play market and is due to arrive this month for about 250 dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
