Folding scanner & Web cam no bigger than a candy bar. HoverCam Mini 5.

Boot Camp feature for Monday, July 29, 2013

A folding scanner and Web cam no bigger than a candy bar.  I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   It’s called the HoverCam Mini 5.   A folding scanner that plugs into a PC or Mac that lets you capture documents, books, just about anything…and it can also double as a Web cam.  It was created by Pathway Innovations and Technologies where Marketing Manager John Miewald says…the design has some advantages over traditional flatbed scanners…

“Number one, you don’t have to damage your document by putting it through a feed scanner.  Number two, you could scan things that are three dimensional in nature, and number three, you avoid damage to your scanner as well.  So this allows you to scan all kinds of objects.  It allows you to scan them quickly because it’s just a snapshot that you’re taking.”

The HoverCam Mini 5 is priced at about 250 dollars.   It is versatile, solidly built and can be used to take HD videos as well.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
