EarHero earphones designed to be tiny & safe

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, August 13, 2013

How small can earphones get?   Meet the EarHero.    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   They’re the invention of a husband and wife team of clinical audiologists, Matt and Mali Murphy.  Matt Murphy says…

“Well it all started probably about 9 years ago when we were all skiing together, a group of friends, and everybody had gotten their new iPods and nobody could hear anybody else without taking an earbud out of their ear and we figured there’s got to be another way to do this.  So we went back and actually started taking some of the hearing aid parts that we’d been working with and came up with a concept to use the hearing aid speaker.”

Because the speakers are so small…the ear canal is open enough for you to have conversations…even talk on the phone.  So they are safer.   The downside is, while the sound is good, some of the bass in the music is lost…an issue Murphy says he is working on. There’s more info at EarHero.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
