High tech fitness tracker...for your dog? Whistle.

Boot Camp feature for Monday, August 26, 2013

A high tech fitness tracker…for your dog?   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    There are dozens of gadgets on the market that will connect to smart phones to help you track your own fitness routines.   Now comes the Whistle Activity Monitor designed for dogs.   Whistle co-founder Steven Eidelman says it is a waterproof disc worn on the collar….

So there’s a plastic attachment with a rubber strap, it locks into the device, goes on the collar.  The device itself lasts about ten days.  It’s waterproof, ruggedized, so you never have to take it off except to charge once every ten days.  And it connects wirelessly, using Bluetooth and WiFi to connect to your router at home and to your mobile phone.  So we’ll be launch with support for Apple iOS devices and later this year for Android.”

Whistle is designed to let you know if your dog is getting enough exercise or enough sleep and can create reports to bring to the vet.    Pre-order pricing is about a hundred dollars at Whistle.com.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
