Sony's new QX clip on smartphone cameras

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Sony’s new clip on smartphone cameras.  I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   There have been add on lenses for smartphone cameras….but what Sony is doing with its new QX line…is replacing the camera in the phone altogether.   The QX10 and higher end QX100…are full fledged cameras with optical zoom capability…and memory card slots.  But they clip onto smartphones and use apps for a viewfinder and controls.   It’s a novel concept.  Sony Senior Technical Manager Mark Weir…

“As you shoot, your images enter your photo gallery directly.  And you can enjoy all the connectivity options.  So what you end up with is the shooting experience that you’ve come to know and love of your phone, but with imaging capabilities and performance that you’d find in a modern, high performance, compact camera.”

The Sony QX10 arrives this week for about 250 dollars…with the QX100 about twice that.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
