Jeopardy Co-founder Turns Online Entrepreneur

Boot Camp feature for Friday, April 21, 2000

She's a co-founder of Jeopardy!... and now she's developing games online. Julann Griffin says she was traveling on an airplane in 1964 with her then husband, Merv Griffin, when they developed the concept for the longest running game show in TV history...

"He was doing a game and I wasn't that much interested in games so I said, I really like question and answers. And he said, like what? So I said, well, give them the answers. And he said, like what? And I said, the answer is five thousand two hundred and eighty. And he said, the question is how many feet are in a mile? So that started it and by the time we got off the plane he had a game."

Today, 71 year old Julann Griffin is a Web entrepreneur. She and her sister co-founded one of the leading online game developers, Boxerjam.com ...

"We're on AOL and Yahoo and Sony and we have our own Web site, Boxerjam.com and we'll have about twenty games by the end of this month."

At all hours of the day and night, you'll find plenty of company in the Boxerjam games. Play with strangers or friends and relatives...

"You go in, you're in the lobby, and you'll find your relatives there... you go into your own room and play the game together and chat together and it's like a family reunion."

Julann Griffin, by the way, doesn't have a stake in the game show she helped conceive. But when you're always thinking, you're never really in jeopardy. You can find us at Thirdage.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, for CBS News.
