Yamaha enables remote student piano auditions

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, February 13, 2014

A college music audition…the high tech way.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   This is typically the time of year when prospective music students audition for colleges and music schools.   And that means a lot of travel and expenses for students and their parents.   But Yamaha is working with schools and sites around the country to enable remote piano auditions.   George Litterst,  the architect of the Disklavier Education Network…says now…performances can be recorded on video and on Disklavier pianos…which allow the sound and technique of the students to be reproduced anywhere….

“Those two recordings are synchronized together with something known as time code and the two recordings are uploaded into the cloud and are made available in a secure area of the Disklavier Education Network Web site for subsequent access by the various schools to which the students may apply.”

There is a reasonable fee…but the technology does save a lot of time and money.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
