Going solar for outdoor charging: Enerplex

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, April 1, 2014

The outdoor season arrives.  Using the sun to charge your gadgets.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Solar chargers for electronic gadgets have been around for years….but they often taxed the patience of users to the point where it hardly seemed worthwhile.  But panels today are more efficient…and portable.   Enerplex is making some of the most innovative solutions…including the Surfr cases for smartphones…which can be helpful in emergencies.  Marketing Manager Brad Brochocki says for faster charging…the better option is the Kickr IV …

“Which is a fold out solar panel.  So it’s four small solar panels about eight by eight inches.  And this product is extremely light weight and flexible.  This product can be dropped, stepped on, run over by a car.  It can get wet.   And these four panels have an output of about 6.5 watts and about a 1 amp output as well which gives you the ability to charge a device up to about an iPad.”

At a speed comparable to a wall charger.   The price…about 130 dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
