Attracting a different type of video gamer: Star Stable

Boot Camp feature for Friday, August 22, 2014

Attracting a different type of video gamer.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     It isn’t designed to only appeal to girls, but the massively multiplayer title Star Stable is attracting more females…typically between the ages of 7 to 17.   Initially available in Scandanavia and now here in the U.S., the game transports players into a fictional world on horseback.  VP Taina Malen says it takes place on an imaginary island…

“But there are also evil powers there.  There is a company, for example, that will try to take down forests and they’re looking for minerals or oil or things like this and they’re bad.  It’s a bad forest.  So the girls who join the game, when they become star riders, they do quests and they also want to stop these evil powers if you like.  So it’s a saga.”

There’s more info for parents and kids at StarStable.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
