Building online communication into toys: Toymail

Boot Camp feature for Friday, October 31, 2014

Building online communication into toys.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    With grandma and grandpa sometimes living far away…and plenty of moms and dads taking business trips….families want to stay in touch.   A company called ToyMail has come up with a new and fun way to communicate.   An internet connected little toy mailbox….that lets kids receive and send voice messages.    Marketing Director Marla Bogaerts….

“It’s kind of a quirky little mailman shaped box, it has WiFi in it.  It connects to an Android or iPhone app.  It allows parents or loved ones or really anyone who has a child in their life that they’d like to reach out to, to send a message from that app, straight to that child’s toy and allows the child to send a message back to them.”

Only people approved by the parents can send messages to the toy which sells for 59 dollars.   There’s no subscription needed after that.    There’s more info at toymail.co.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
