The push for Ultra HD

Boot Camp feature for Monday, November 24, 2014

The push for  Ultra HD.    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. With DirecTV, Netflix, M-Go and Amazon all jumping on the Ultra HD bandwagon, consumers who invest in the screens with four times the resolution of plain old HD will have more to watch.  At LG Electronics, Director of New Product Development Tim Alessi says prices are becoming more consumer friendly too…

“There are sizes as low as 40 inches for just under a thousand dollars.  And then 55, 65 and up from there.”

There will be some Black Friday Ultra HD bargains.  But should buyers be worried about investing in technology that could hit a dead end…like all of those 3D TVs?   Alessi says that won’t happen with Ultra HD…

“You don’t have to have special content.  You don’t have to wear glasses.  It’s not just for movies.”

The Consumer Electronics Association says the industry is on track to sell 800 thousand Ultra HD TVs this year…a jump of more than a thousand percent from last year.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
