Google's Nest is getting crowded

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Google’s Nest is getting crowded.    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   More and more companies that make devices for the smart home are tying in with Google’s Nest Program…making the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector more like digital gateways.   For instance, the Ooma phone service has joined the program.   The reason?  VP Jim Gustke….

“When your Nest Protect smoke alarm goes off, the Ooma Telo will call you on your cell phone and notify you that your smoke alarm is going off.  But what’s really amazing is you then have the option to press 1 to connect to emergency services local to your home and then they can respond more quickly to the emergency.”

Nest…which detects your presence…can also automatically forward calls to your cell when you leave home.  The service is available to Ooma’s ten dollar a month Premier subscribers.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
