Brio's safer and smarter electrical outlets

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Using tech to make a safer electrical outlet.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    It a fear shared by just about every parent.   Babies and toddlers exploring around electrical outlets.   Many parents invest in covers, which can be inconvenient when you want to use an outlet.  A company called Brio is coming to market with an outlet designed for safety.  Partner Jocelyn Painter says there are two models, the first being the Brio Safe…

“It can tell the difference between a human finger and a human touch and an appliance that needs to be powered.   And our Brio Smart, which also has our safety features, has additional functionality that monitors for carbon monoxide, water events or smoke and fire.”

The company is taking pre-orders at BrioHouse.com with the Brio Safe priced at 39 dollars and Brio Smart at 79.   The first units are scheduled to ship this spring.   You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
