Home automation? Insteon keeps plugging away.

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, April 2, 2015

When it comes to home automation, Insteon keeps plugging away.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Insteon is a company that has been selling and creating home automation equipment since the 1990s.   It’s focus has been on the do it yourselfer, but the wireless technology Insteon uses makes installation pretty simple.   CEO Joe Dada…

“Our technology is radically different than most others.  Unlike WiFi or Bluetooth, ours is a mesh technology which means that every node on the network repeats the signal, so the more products you have the stronger the network gets.  Instead of using RF only, like all of the others, we use both RF and power line so we inject our signal into the electrical wires of the house.”

So when lights or other switches are supposed to turn on or off…they do.   Insteon is making a hub compatible with Apple’s HomeKit…and is also working with Nest and Microsoft’s Cortana.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
