Fitbit alternative to Apple Watch

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Fitbit’s alternative to the Apple Watch.    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Fitbit has established itself as a leader in the wearable fitness tech category….and it isn’t standing still when it comes to taking on the new competition.    The Fitbit Surge is in stores and does a lot more than step counting.    The company’s Daniel Shaw….

“That has GPS, continuous heart rate and select smartwatch features in addition to the all day activity that you are used to.”  Notifications and things like that?   “You get notifications, text notifications, call notifications and you have music control on there, in addition to the GPS where you’ll be able to track runs and distance and continuous heart rate 24/7.”

The 250 dollar Fibit Surge comes in two different band sizes, is comfortable to wear…and with a traditional type watchband, is much more secure on the wrist than a Fitbit Flex.   It can monitor your sleep habits as well.   One caution, though, while it is water resistant, the company advises users to remove the watch before a shower or  swim.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
