Science & engineering toy for girls continues to grow: Roominate

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, June 9, 2015

A science and engineering toy for girls continues to grow.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Roominate started out as a wired building kit aimed at girls to increase interest in science and engineering.   Now it is looking to expand…and part of that is a new rPower hub that will allow programming and control via Bluetooth.   Co-founder Bettina Chen…

“We’ll have an app where you can control and program the circuits from your phone.  So you can turn the lights on and off from your phone, you can set them to blink, you can turn the motors on or off, change the speed of them, change the direction.  You can imagine for your Ferris wheel, you can program them to have flashing lights or with the carousel you can spin it faster or slower.  And it’s really about bringing in this new learning of programming into the toy.”

The rPower hub for Roominate is due to arrive later this summer.   There’s more info at RoominateToy.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
