Tech to save water and your garden: RainMachine

Boot Camp feature for Friday, September 4, 2015

Tech to save water and your garden.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Whether you live in a drought stricken area of the country or not,  saving water should be a concern.   And a company called Green Electronics has built sprinkler system controllers designed to be smart enough to help.   The brand is RainMachine, and CTO Andrei Bulucea says the controllers connect to the Internet to retrieve important data…

“Temperature, relative humidity, wind as well as dew point we calculate daily. as a result we can modulate the water use up and down as needed.  Usually this brings about 50 percent in your water savings.”

There are models with touch screens for up to 12 or 16 zones and the Mini-8, without a screen.  Pricing starts at about a hundred eighty dollars.   Installation as a replacement for an existing controller is pretty straightforward and you can access the system from your smartphone too.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
