Drones flying high for the holidays: Horizon Hobby

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Drones are flying high for the holidays.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Despite some uncertainty about pending regulatory measures for drones,  lots of folks are buying them.     Horizon Hobby is one of the companies working to make the technology safe…and fun.    Its Chroma photography drones are very simple to control, even for beginners, and the controller has its own android based screen built in.   Program Manager Dustin Buescher…

“To make it simple enough for everyone, we included a mode called Smart Mode.  When you power up, it sets a safe zone around the pilot.  The direction you point the stick is the direction it’s going to fly.  So if you hold right, it’s going to spin around the safe circle to the right.”

There are built in limitations for altitude and such…and with the flick of a switch…it will return to its starting point for a safe landing.   There are different camera models, including one that can take amazing 4K video and impressive stills.    You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
