Programming with little robots: Evollve Ozobot

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Kids can learn to program with little robots.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   There’s a lot of attention being paid these days from the White House on down…to teaching kids about programming.    A company called Evollve has been using little robots called Ozobots…to make it fun.   The latest generation is the Ozobot Bit.  What do kids get out of it?  CEO Nader Hamda…

“They start by learning just basic reasoning.  We introduce a lot of activities where they have to figure out a way to navigate the robot from a to b while avoiding obstacles or avoiding the wrong turns by introducing the right sequence of codes in front of the robot.  And then systematically, they’re learning to critically think how to maneuver four or five steps ahead in order to problem solve something.”

Kids take to it with ease.   A starter kit sells for about fifty dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
