A truly wire free home monitoring camera system: Blink

Boot Camp feature for Monday, May 16, 2016

A truly wire free home monitoring camera system.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    When it comes to cameras that you can use to monitor your home using your smartphone, Blink stands out from the crowd.   The system uses small battery operated cameras that feature motion detection, a built in microphone and a temperature sensor too.     And the price for a three camera system is just 200 dollars. VP Don Shulsinger says the cameras use standard double A lithium batteries that last up to a year.  And set up is impressively simple….

“You download the app and then you connect the device, we call it a sync module, you can think of it as a hub.  One of these comes with every system, it has to be within 100 feet of the cameras and then you forget about it.  You basically provide the sync module with your WiFi password and it then sets up all the cameras.”

The cameras are made for indoors, but outdoor versions are in the works.   There’s more at BlinkforHome.com.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
