Play and creativity….they do go together. I’m Fred Fishkin with BootCamp, your Techstination for gadgets and gear. Steven Johnson, author and host of the PBS television series How we got to now…has been taking a look of late at the relationship between play and innovation. He has a book called Wonderland: How play made the modern world and a new Wonderland podcast. On top of that he partnered with Microsoft on a survey that looked at where people have their best ideas….and says Johnson…it isn’t usually at work…
“The place you go to do your job seems to be an idea suppressor. The most important ideas, creative ideas, tend to come from people when they are in this more relaxed, playful state. Whether they are going for a walk or they’re in the shower or they’re playing a game.”
That, he adds, is when the brain opens up to new ideas and concepts. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
