You Too Can Own a Piece of History

Boot Camp feature for Monday, November 13, 2000

You too can own a piece of history. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. It's a collaboration between the History Channel on cable TV and eBay on the Web. A weekly auction of pieces of history at the end of a program called History's Lost and Found...

"History's Lost and Found is a show that really is a scavenger hunt through time and it shows and talks about items on the History Channel that relate to our history and that are... some are quirky, some are funny, some are very historic and deal with treasures... but different items that relate to our history that people haven't thought about for a while and we tell them what's happened to them, the history of them and where they are today."

The History Channel's Judy Klein Frimer. And on Mondays an expert from Butterfields Auctioneers... owned by eBay... .introduces an item that goes up for bid online. For instance...

"We're actually going to have the San Quentin prison records. And these are fascinating. This is where Sirhan Sirhan was and Charles Manson was."

Other upcoming Lost and Found Auction Block items include Teddy Roosevelt's barometer and compass... ..and a letter signed by Elvis giving Colonel Parker the right to represent him. Presidents and kings... .

"The range of items are from pop culture to real historic treasures and to things that represent historic moments."

The collaboration is another example of the continuing convergence of TV and the Internet. You can find more information at historychannel.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
