Oscar Night...Online

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, March 22, 2001

Oscar night... online. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. Hollywood's big night is coming up... .and while it's hard to say how many people will be pulled away from their TVs, there will be plenty of the glitz and glamour on the Web. The official site is Oscars.com, where among other things you can vote on your favorite Oscar memory. At MovieFone.com, part of the AOL family, Web surfers have already voted on their Oscar predictions. Russ Leatherman is the founder and voice of MovieFone... .

"Literally hundreds of thousands of people voted online and Gladiator was the big winner this year in both picture and Russell Crowe won actor and Ridley Scott won director and the best actress category... a little actress by the name Julia Roberts won that. So movie goers overwhelmingly voted for Gladiator and for Julia Roberts so it will be interesting to see if the Academy follow suit."

And on Oscar night...

"Three of four years ago, they wouldn't let us Internet folks even in the building and now we play a big part not only on the day of the Oscars we'll be backstage and we'll be doing interviews and hosting live Webcasts and letting people ask questions with the stars and those kinds of things, but in preparation for the event, we've been doing all kinds of things including Oscar trivia games, you can watch previews of the movies... "

You can even get help planning an Oscar party. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
