Fashion Gifts for Gadget People

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, December 18, 2001

Fashion gifts for the gadget people on your list. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. One of the problems for us gadget people in this wired world... .is how do you carry all the stuff around. Cell Phones, pagers and PDAs... digital music players. You only have so many pockets. At least until now. Dockers is selling what it calls its Mobile Pants... .with three extra pockets that zipper for security. And if you need more than that... entrepreneur Scott Jordan is peddling... what he calls the Scott eVest... .

"Scott eVest is a combination of fashion, technology and luggage. To describe it in a sentence, it's technology enabled clothing. It has 15 pockets, with a patent pending personal area network licensed by a company called Technology Enabled Clothing, which is a related company."

There are channels for all kinds of wires... and room, says Jordan, to carry a cell phone, pager, PDA, MP3 player, digital camera, portable keyboard... along with a GPS device, two way radio and a bottle of water. The vest is sold online at scottevest.com. Jordan says that's just the start...

"Through my related company, you will soon see companies such as North Face, such as Pategonia, such as London Fog, incorporate this same concept into their clothing."

If your needs aren't quite so extreme, a company called Rhino Skin makes a wide assortment of leather, aluminum and titanium cases for PDAs and other devices. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
