Put on Those 3D Glasses Again...

Boot Camp feature for Friday, January 4, 2002

Ready or not... .here comes 3D on the Web. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. We've seen it in movie theatres... .remember everybody wearing those cardboard glasses... .and it's been tried on TV. Now a company called TDV Technologies is bringing the 3D viewing experience to the Web. CEO Jonathan McCann...

"These are real life images broadcast in video or still format where the viewer actually has a lifelike experience. It's like being there, whether it's viewing a product... you feel like the product's literally in your hands. If you're watching a movie or DVD, you feel like you're in the scene. It brings the third dimension to the end user."

TDV has created an Internet portal for 3D content... and from the site at tdv3d.com it is selling the hardware and software needed for viewing. A 99 dollar package includes both wired and wireless glasses. McCann says the site will feature educational content, online shopping and entertainment...

"We're going to have the first Miss e-World Beauty Pageant in 3D, fashion and lingerie shows in 3D."

And Anatoly Karpov has agreed to participate in the first e-World Chess Championship in 3D. McCann says his company intends to bring the technology into the family room TV as well. Despite all the 3D efforts that have come and gone before, he believes there's a huge market for it... .

"This market is as big as there are people in the world with two eyes."
