Logitech Branches Out...Bluetooth & Palm Accessories

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, April 4, 2002

Logitech branches out. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It has been one of the most successful companies around making PC peripherals. Now Logitech is going after business users... and add-ons for PDAs. It has created one of the first presentation tools using Bluetooth wireless technology. Logitech's David Henry says the Cordless Presenter arrives this month...

"And what it is is a one piece integrated optical mouse plus a presentation controller. It happens to be Bluetooth. So in one mode, it is actually a little cordless optical mouse that you could use with your laptop. There's another switch that changes the mode to a cordless presentation device."

With a built in laser pointer. The price... about two hundred dollars. On the PDA side, the company is making a water resistant fabric keyboard for new model Palms, that wraps around the handheld to serve as a case...

"More than fifty percent of the people who buy a PDA, the first thing they do is go out and they purchase a case to protect it. We also know that probably ten to fifteen percent of the people go out and purchase a keyboard to input data. So we've combined kind of both of those accessories into one."

I'm still not convinced that keyboards are a necessary add on for Palms... but if you're planning on doing some serious data entry on one... the KeyCase sells for about a hundred dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
